Diveheart helps kick off Illinois State Veterans Lottery

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn takes a moment with Rick Olson who is a DMW (Diveheart Military Wounded) participant, Vietnam veteran, and Hines V.A. patient who is blind.  The event took place October 28th at the Union League Club in downtown Chicago to recognize recipients of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs “Lottery Ticket” Grant.  The State lottery will be launching a new ticket that will benefit veterans with disabilities around the state of Illinois.   Diveheart’s DMW program for disabled veterans received such a grant in 2009 and is training veterans around the state as a result.

 

 

Diveheart volunteer and DMW co-coordinator Andrew Ryal and DMW participant John Williams attended the event.  Diveheart president, Jim Elliott, would like to thank them for taking the time to help move the DMW cause forward.

 

GONE DIVIN

Sisters Maribel and Marisela take to the water and leave their wheelchairs behind…. Sunday, August 15th during the Diveheart “DIVIN PICNIC” At Haigh Quarry in Kankakee www.haighquarry.com   Through Owner Tina Haigh’s  generosity….DiveHeart was able to host over a eighty divers over twenty five were children, adults and veterans with disabilities, the rest were Diveheart instructors, buddies, volunteers and family members.  The next Diveheart “DIVIN PICNIC” will be September 12th (http://www.diveheart.org/index.php?option=com_events&task=view_detail&agid=582&year=2010&month=09&day=12&Itemid=59 ) ..Hope to see you there….

 

Cozumel Bound ……..

Veterans with visually impairments from Hines V.A. are in the water training hard for their DMW (Diveheart Military Wounded) scuba adventure trip to Cozumel Mexico December 2-8.   Diveheart will be diving with Dive Paradise (http://www.diveparadise.com/) where all the instructors and Divemasters are Diveheart trained to work with individuals with disabilities.   They will also be staying at Hotel Cozumel where they recently have added ten additional wheelchair accessible rooms.

   

Diveheart Teams up with Local Army Recruiters

ARMY recruiters team up with Diveheart to help Diveheart Military Wounded (DMW) divers Friday, August 13th at Commander Lita’s pool in Oak Brook, Illinois.    Many of the recruiters tried scuba for the first time in an effort to experience the benefits of zero gravity, benefit that is enjoyed by Diveheart Military Wounded divers all over the country.
