PRESIDENTS MESSAGE:

The sprit of a firefighter is the focus of this months Diveheart Newsflash.

The young man featured in Dan Barrett's story embraced the dream, from the time he was a child, of becoming a firefighter.

I teach many firefighters and they are a special breed. Their selfless commitment to help others, their courage and their compassion are probably some of the reasons we set them apart and honor them.

Countless young children all over our country at one time or another dream about being a firefighter. Alas, only a handful of very special individuals will ever actually make the necessary journey and have what it takes to achieve that goal.

I am proud to count many firefighters among the ranks of Diveheart volunteers who without hesitation step up to help children and adults with disabilities learn to fly through scuba diving.

It is that spirit that we now salute and the courage and dream of one young man who wanted to stand among the ranks of the intrepid..one young man who embodies the spirit of a firefighter ..
